Eastern Restaurant – Bandung

If you are going to Bandung and looking for a modern, cozy ambience Chinese food that truly serve good foods in reasonable prices, you should go to Eastern Restaurant. This restaurant exactly has gained a good reputation in my city and can be categorized as one of the everyone’s favorite restaurant.

Before going any further I apologize for the bad quality pictures for this post. This was a sudden dinner when I didn’t bring any appropriate device to capture good pictures. All I had was an iPad combined with the dim lighting in the Restaurant, well not a very amusing combination though. 😀

It was on Sunday evening, about 1 hour before the mall closed and I had a family dinner at Eastern Restaurant Bandung. The restaurant is located inside Istana Plaza shopping mall, a family mall in a very strategic location in town. For the good foods and other qualities they have, no wonder that you will have to queue for quite a long time during week-end to get a table. Actually it always almost packed by customers during week-days as well.

Sup Burung Dara (Dove Soup)

My favorite entree ever at Eastern is the Sup Burung Dara (Dove Soup), served in a bamboo cylinder “bowl”. It was a minced dove meat and broth steamed in a bamboo bowl. This was very tasty with a strong savory broth taste. When you chew the meat, you will find a very tender meat combined with crunchy minced radish. This is so perfect to be enjoyed in Bandung’s cold rainy weather. Recommended!

Soft Shell Crab with Salted Egg Yolk

My mom’s favorite here is the Soft Shell crab with Salted Egg Yolk and I think we always order this menu in our every visit here. I love the soft shell crab here as they make it perfectly crunchy and dampened by the generous egg yolk sauce. Just perfect to my liking! My mom is a soft shell crab lover and she always loves the soft shell crab here over the ones she has ever tried from other restaurants.

Pocai saus 2 Telur

We need veggies to complete a Chinese food dinner right? Our choice that night was the Pocai with two kinds of egg sauce (egg and salted egg). In the past they made it with century egg as well but as the health issue about arose, they stopped using it. Too bad that I love century egg so much. 😀 They cooked the pocai in thick sauce style, cracked the egg and added chuks of fried salted egg.

Fried Chicken with Singapore Sauce

We also ordered one of their new chicken menu which is Fried Chicken with Singapore Sauce. It was a perfectly crunchy-savory fried chicken with a sour and spicy chili sauce.

Besides the a la carte Chinese Food, you can also have Suki, All You Can Eat and Dim Sum here. I never ordered any beverages other than the Chinese tea. They have Ti Guan Yin, Oolong, Chrysant and Jasmine tea that you can choose.

Notes :

  • The pricing might not accurate (my bad) but I set all of them to the maximum so the real prices are more likely to be exact or below what I mentioned here
  • All of the menus (except the Dove Soup) we ordered were the small size portion which fits for 2-3 persons

Hawker’s Cuisine Perth

I had a five hours transit in Perth last month before going home. In that opportunity my cousin and his wife picked me up from the airport and took me for a dinner. Well, I always love this city and finallyyyyy after almost a year I came back even it was just for 5 hours! I’m happy!

One of the failed dining destination in my Perth holiday was The Hawker’s Cuisine in Northbridge-Chinatown. At that time this restaurant closed so we ate at other restaurant nearby. Too bad. As when I finally went back to Indonesia, almost every people I met asking whether I visited Hawker’s Cuisine or not..” 🙂 Happily in this arrival, they took me there to have a late dinner since actually all of us have had our dinner before. I had mine in the plane so you can imagine that I was super ready for another foodies.

We arrived around 10 pm and the restaurant was still very crowded by people. As we were half full, we only ordered 2 dishes, rice and drinks. We ordered Soft Shell Crab with salted egg, Sambal Kangkong, rice and Teh Tarik. My cousin says their soft shell crab is the best in Perth, well it got me excited. 🙂 Actually I also heard most people love the marmite chicken and other marmite stuffs that I might try in my another visit next time.

Soft Shell Crab with salted egg

Crunchy, savory and super delicious. I just expected there were more generous salted eggyolk on the crab that will make it even more tastier.

Sambal Kangkong

Believe it or not, I never had any kangkong dishes since I live in Melbourne so it took me like 7 months to eat this! I am such a big fan of kangkong but I am just too lazy going to Asian market and looking for this yummy veggie. Eating Sambal Kangkong really made me happy and I reckoned it was nice with mild spiciness.

Teh Tarik

Teh tarik is Malaysian style milk tea and I do like how the way it tasted because they sweeten it very well. In this cause, they make it not too sweet which perfect my liking.

Outside the Restaurant after we finished eating. They were going to close.

To be honest, I am sure I should make another visit next time with empty tummy and more dishes variety. Overall I enjoyed the dining experience, for the foods, viscous Chinese atmosphere and prompt yet friendly service.

It was like a super fast getaway in Perth but I am happy to spend it with people I love while enjoying lovely foods.

Oishii Sushi Bar-Brisbane

First time going here and had a delightful experience eating sushi and sashimi. 🙂
When I was here, I ordered salmon sashimi, red roll, scallop nigiri, Himawari and Spider Roll (The last two menus are their famous fusion sushi). They also have hot food menus like udon, curry and etc. Too bad I didn’t try any of them, so I should go back there someday to try other menus (such as one of their best rice-less sushi!!!).

First the sashimi – Price AU$ 17
The salmon sashimi cut pretty thick than I usually find in another Japanese Restaurant. But they also cut the salmon slices into thinner size and formed them as rose. The presentation was pretty. They also famous for their fresh and good quality fishes. And yes, it was really delicious. Even their wasabi is fresher, spicier and of course tastier here. Such a worth food to re-experience!

Scallop Nigiri – Price AU$ 5
This is my 1st time eating raw scallop. I usually don’t have interest eating raw scallop, but I informed that many people love the scallop here. It tasted sweet, pretty nice, chewy but yeah I don’t really like the sensation in my mouth after swallow it. Hehehe.

Himawari – Price AU$ 10.50
This fushion sushi is made by deep fried chicken with avocado paste, seasoned with egg rice seasoning and sesame seeds, served in 8 pieces. This one tasted so good, soft egg covered the rice and a crunchy fried chicken inside with sweet avocado paste.

Spider Roll – Price AU$ 13.00
This one also really tasty, made by soft shell crab tempura, rolled with Kani-tama (Japanese fish-cake and egg), salad, cucumber and covered with tobiko, served in 8 pieces. I love this one because of the really delicious soft shell crab tempura inside the sushi roll.

Red Roll – I forgot (around AU$ 15.00 I guess)
This one is raw salmon sushi, with diced avocado, mayo sauce and poppy seeds on top, served in 6 pieces. The good quality salmon makes this sushi tasted good.

On my coming there, it was their 6th anniversary celebration. Happy Birthday Oishii Sushi Bar!!!
All the best for all
